Questo database contiene i registri con gli elenchi dei soldati volontari dell’Unione che morirono durante la guerra civile.

This database contains registers listing volunteer Union soldiers who died during the Civil War. (Volunteers were typically recruited for a specific conflict, while “Regulars” were professional soldiers who served in the standing army.) Registers were compiled by the Adjutant General’s Office and list soldiers from the following states:

  • Connecticut
  • Illinois
  • Indiana
  • Iowa
  • Kentucky
  • Maine
  • Massachusetts
  • Michigan
  • Missouri
  • New Hampshire
  • New Jersey
  • New York
  • Ohio
  • Pennsylvania
  • Vermont
  • Wisconsin

There are also separate registers of colored troops. Records are grouped by state of enlistment and then alphabetically by first letter of the surname; names within each letter group are listed chronologically. The registers list

  • name
  • rank
  • company
  • date of death
  • place of death
  • cause of death
  • remarks (these often name the attending surgeon)

These records include soldiers killed in the Sultana disaster.
