L’Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE), inizialmente chiamata Society of Telegraph Engineers, venne fondata nel 1871. Sono i documenti di questa organizzazione relativi agli anni 1871-1901.

The Institution of Engineering and Technology was founded in 1871 as the Society of Telegraph Engineers and later became the Institution of Electrical Engineers. In 2006 it joined with the Institution of Incorporated Engineers to become the IET. It is the professional home for life for engineers and technicians with over 150,000 members worldwide. The IET Library and Archives collections were awarded Designated status recognising their international importance in engineering history. The collections include books and journals, personal papers and corporate collections, photographs and films and rare books dating back to the fourteenth century. Access to the collections is provided through an enquiry service, website, talks and visits to the Archives Centre by appointment. For more information please contact [email protected].

The IET is one of Britain’s oldest professional bodies, and these records include not only members from England but also members from throughout the Commonwealth, particularly from India and Australia. This collection includes printed annual lists with the names of members, their level of membership, and current working address.
