This collection is comprised primarily of payrolls for employees who worked in the Texas State Penitentiary System, including guards, physicians, sergeants, and others. You will also find some guard ledgers, with details on guards’ service, and discharge records.
Payroll records typically provide a name, date, pay, and occupation. Ledgers include name, prison assigned, date of assignment, and discharge, resignation, or suspension. Reasons for the discharge or suspension are often noted.
